The Open-Air Water Power Museum refers to the pre-industrial technology. Carefully renovated old installations of a flour mill, a fulling mill, a powder mill and a tannery.
Α serious scientific work has been accomplished, with great aesthetic and educational value, a unique testimony of a lifestyle and professions that were lost.
During the Turkish domination the monastery succeeded to constitute an excellent cultural center, a pilgrimage for the Christians in the region, especially those of Dimitsana and Zigovistiou, while it significantly helped the Greeks who were fighting during the revolution of 1821 with food, money and hospitality for the persecuted.
In the gorge of Lucius one of the oldest monasteries in Greece was founded in 927 by the secretary of John Fokas, John Lampardopoulos, the so-called Philosopher.
The Faculty of Dimitsana and the Secret school functioned in the monastery with pioneers Gregory V and Germanos of Old Patras.
Today there are two monastery complexes: Old (Palea) and New (Nea) Monastery.
The New Monastery was founded in 1691 at a distance of 400 meters from the Old with many cells. The Byzantine mural paintings are of a great interest.
Flourished during the period of the Turkish occupation, since it was accepting many dedications and donations, having in this way the ability to perform a great charity work.
Also it was the operations base of Th. Kolokotronis and Plapoutas, a hospital for the wounded and a supply center for the besiegers of Tripoli.
The gorge of Lucius was a place of exercise for the Orthodox monks.
The Library and the Folklore Museum, priceless historical manuscripts and documents, located in the Square of Dimitsana next to the elementary school.
At the same point the town's Cathedral Agia Kyriaki is located, a building of 1834 which replaced the old of 1603.
